Melomys Takes A Bold Step To Clean Up The Ocean In Partnership With Tidey This World Cleanup Day

In a monumental move to combat ocean-bound plastic pollution, Melomys has teamed up with Tidey for a unique initiative. For every item sold, Melomys pledges to remove 1 lb of plastic from Guatemala’s most polluted rivers.

Walnut Creek, California – To commemorate World Cleanup Day, Melomys, a company renowned for its sustainable practices, has announced a strategic partnership with Tidey.

This collaboration aims to tackle the pressing issue of ocean-bound plastic pollution and make an immediate impact. To date, Melomys has already funded the removal of 1,000 lbs of plastic from Guatemala’s most polluted rivers.

World Cleanup Day, observed on the third Saturday of September, is a global social action program aimed at combating the global solid waste problem. This year, the day takes on even more significance as companies like Melomys and Tidey join forces to make a tangible impact on our planet’s health.

Tidey is a rising company that aims to combat marine plastic pollution, particularly in the Maria Linda and Achiguate Rivers of Guatemala. They collect and recycle waste while creating job opportunities for those living in impoverished areas. Their achievements are impressive, with over 150 collectors having removed more than 200,000 pounds of plastic that would have otherwise ended up in the ocean. Melomys and Tidey are a powerful team fighting against pollution.

For every item purchased from Melomys, 1 lb of ocean-bound plastic will be removed from one of the most polluted rivers in Guatemala. This initiative is in addition to Melomys’s ongoing commitment to plant 5 trees for every item sold, through their partnership with One Tree Planted.

According to a study by VOA News, about half a million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans each year. “The plastic pollution problem will only get worse if action isn’t taken now,” warns Mikael Kaandorp, a research scientist.

“We’re not just cleaning the ocean; we’re saving lives, both human and marine,” said Kirsten Runyan, CEO of Melomys. “Together, we can make a significant impact and set an example for other businesses to follow.”

“Melomys shares our vision for a cleaner, healthier planet,” added Jeremy Porter, Founder of Tidey. “This partnership amplifies our efforts and brings us one step closer to a plastic-free ocean.”

The collaboration between Melomys and Tidey is expected to create a ripple effect, encouraging other businesses to take similar actions. As more companies join the fight against plastic pollution, the collective impact could be monumental, leading to cleaner oceans and a healthier planet.
