Golden Bell Stars Shine in Chengdu, The 14th China Golden Bell Music Awards Successfully Conclude

On the evening of October 25th, the Chengdu City Concert Hall once again witnessed a highlight moment. The 14th China Golden Bell Music Awards ceremony and closing concert, organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Chinese Musicians Association, and hosted by the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, were grandly held there. The ceremony honored musicians who received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the winners of this year’s Golden Bell Award.

Yu Feng, a member of the Party Group of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Vice Chairman, delivered a speech at the closing ceremony. He stated that this edition of the Golden Bell Award closely followed the theme of “Singing in the New Era, Advancing in the New Journey” and adhered to the concept of “a grand artistic event and a festive occasion for the people.” It deepened the implementation of the reform spirit of the central literary and art awards, with the main competition events complemented by supporting performances. The combination of professional competition and popular music complemented each other, further enhancing the scientific, fair, and authoritative nature of the Golden Bell Award. Its popularity and benefit to the people were more prominent, achieving the goal of gathering famous masters, involving the wider public, gaining full recognition from the industry, and receiving high praise from society. It composed a magnificent chapter of the prosperous development of China’s music industry in the new era and new journey.

After the award ceremony, renowned conductor and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association, Zhang Guoyong, and renowned conductor Huang Yi conducted the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra. They were joined by renowned singers Liao Changyong, Wu Bixia, Wang Lida, Xue Haoyin, as well as the winners of four events in this year’s Golden Bell Award: Chen Yingzhu, Lin Zihao, Zhang Haiyue, Luo Chaowen, and violinist Zhang Yi. Together, they brought a splendid performance to the audience.

The concert opened with the orchestral piece “Zaicanlanyangguangxia, or Under the Brilliant Sun.” Following that, Chen Yingzhu, the first-place winner of the vocal (ethnic) competition at this year’s Golden Bell Award, performed a solo of “Bianjingdexiaoniao, or the Bird at the Border.” Lin Zihao, the first-place winner of the vocal (classical) competition, sang an excerpt from the opera “Biancheng, or the Border Town” titled “Nandaozhejiushinantaodesuming, or Is This Unavoidable Destiny?” Zhang Haiyue, the first-place winner of the erhu competition, presented a splendid performance of the erhu and symphony orchestra piece “The 62nd Erhu Rhapsody,” which is also the world premiere of this commissioned work for the 14th China Golden Bell Music Awards.

Next, Wang Lida, a renowned singer and judge of this year’s Golden Bell Award, performed excerpts from the ethnic opera “Yimengshan, or Yimeng Mountain” titled “In the Mountains and Waters” and the Hunan flower-drum tune “Xicaixin, or Washing Vegetables.” Xue Haoyin, another renowned singer and judge of the Golden Bell Award, sang an excerpt from the opera “Romeo and Juliet” titled “Sun, Rise Quickly” and the well-known song “My Chinese Heart.” Luo Chaowen, the first-place winner of the violin competition, played the third movement of the “Violin Concerto in D Major” for the audience. Wu Bixia, a renowned singer and judge of the Golden Bell Award, performed two different styles of Chinese and foreign songs, “Ailianshuo, or Love for the Lotus” and “Yeying, or Nightingale,” showcasing the fusion of Chinese and Western music. Liao Changyong, a renowned singer and supervisor of this year’s Golden Bell Award, delivered a powerful and passionate performance of the opera “Carmen” with the excerpt “The Toreador’s Song” and then sang the song “Horizon” for the audience, demonstrating his rich and deep vocal tones and heartfelt interpretation, leaving the audience in awe of his heavenly voice.

Amidst the classic melody of “Wodezuguo, or My Motherland,” led by the musicians on stage and sung in unison by the entire audience, the concert concluded successfully, marking a perfect ending to the 14th China Golden Bell Music Awards.

The China Golden Bell Music Awards is a national-level professional music award established with the approval of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Since its inception in 2001, it has always been in line with the Party, the people, and the times. It represents the highest level of Chinese music and promotes the steady progress of China’s music industry. Under the diligent pursuit and continuous inheritance of generations of musicians, it has developed into the most authoritative and influential national-level professional award in the Chinese music industry.

During this edition of the Golden Bell Award, a total of 42 professional competitions and six high-level music performances were presented. Over 260 young musicians selected through nationwide competitions competed on the same stage, after being recommended by various member organizations of the Chinese Musicians Association, music academies, professional ensembles, and professional societies. The jury, composed of 64 experts and leading figures from various fields in the industry, conducted strict evaluations, and 20 new Golden Bell Award winners emerged. Through comprehensive, three-dimensional, and cross-media matrix communication, the cumulative online viewership of various events exceeded 250 million, and the cumulative exposure on all platforms exceeded 500 million, setting new records in creative planning, promotion frequency, and reporting scale.

During the Golden Bell Award, singers such as Liao Changyong, Shi Yijie, Gong Shuang, Zhang Yu, as well as previous Golden Bell Award winners and representatives of this year’s participants, entered media live studios, parks, campuses, streets, and villages, reaching out to the masses. They presented wonderful performances to the people with beautiful music, explained the stories of the Golden Bell Award in interviews, and conducted a series of themed activities titled “Walking in the Streets of Chengdu, Meeting the Golden Bell,” sharing the charm of music and art. These efforts received applause and praise from the audience and various sectors. The combination of offline and online activities greatly enhanced the overflow effect and social benefits of the Golden Bell Award.

Chairman of the Chinese Musicians Association, Ye Xiaogang, stated at the press conference of this edition of the Golden Bell Award that they will adhere to the common concept and development vision of “continuously elevating the Golden Bell Award to new levels and new patterns.” The theme “Walking in the Streets of Chengdu, Meeting the Golden Bell” is a perfect embodiment of this.

The successful hosting of this edition of the Golden Bell Award not only showcases the latest achievements in the development of Chinese music in the new era but also marks a new starting point for music workers to bravely shoulder new cultural missions and embark on a new journey of advancement.
