Xi’an-On November 7th, the themed cultural exchange event “Cultural Integration: Exploring Chang’an along the Belt and Road” was successfully held, hosted by the Xi’an Municipal Party Committee’s Network Information Office, co-organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xi’an Municipal Party Committee, and undertaken by HSW.

On that day, a group of foreign friends from Tajikistan, Algeria, and other countries, as well as influential self-media personalities and international students, formed a press delegation. They visited the old vegetable market’s cultural and creative street, Yisushe Cultural Street, the Site of Weiyang Palace in Chang’an City, and the Fengdong New City Free Trade and Service Trade Industrial Park in the Xixian New Area. They personally experienced the vivid practice of Xi’an’s integration into the grand framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Exploring Xi’an through the Integration of Culture and Tourism

At the first stop of the event, the press delegation visited the cultural and creative street in the old vegetable market. In recent years, through “micro-updates and light transformations,” the old vegetable market has not only preserved its historical charm but also fully displayed a new era’s characteristics. Here, people can find the nostalgic atmosphere they long for and experience the artistic culture of fashion trends.

“While preserving the original residents’ living conditions and the rustic charm of the vegetable market, we have delved into the historical context of this land, continued the urban texture, recreated urban play scenes, and created new landmarks for the old vegetable market,” said Shang Yanhui, the Executive Deputy General Manager of the old vegetable market, as he introduced the transformation process.

In the Yisushe Cultural Street of Xi’an, on the open-air stage, the powerful and rhythmic sound of gongs and drums stirred the emotions, and the melodious singing and vivid performances vividly portrayed the storylines, deeply captivating the members of the press delegation.

“Yisushe is very interesting. The local dialect inside gives us a more intuitive understanding of Shaanxi culture, and we also heard the authentic Qin Opera. I really like Qin Opera and would love to learn from them,” said Muhammad, a graduate student from Tajikistan at Xi’an Petroleum University, who was deeply impressed by Chinese culture.

Witnessing Xi’an’s Ancient and Modern Fusion

Thousands of years ago, the legendary Silk Road, filled with the sound of camel bells, started from the Chang’an City, extending westward, connecting the ancient East and distant West. As time passed, the Han Chang’an City Site now shines with the glory of the ancient capital, inheriting Chinese civilization, attracting more people to come and spread Chinese culture to the world.

In the gentle autumn breeze, the press delegation entered the Site of Weiyang Palace in Chang’an City, exploring the city where the spirit of the Han ethnic group originated, coming into close contact with the rich landscape of the ruins, listening to the legendary stories of Chang’an City, and experiencing the blooming of a millennium-old culture in the modern era.

“I have always been fond of Chinese culture. This visit has given me a deeper understanding of the Chinese culture, and I hope to have more opportunities to participate in such activities in the future and continue to be exposed to more Chinese culture,” said Ilyas, the ambassador of international students from Algeria at Chang’an University.

Observing Xi’an’s Development along the Silk Road

Finally, the press delegation visited the Fengdong New City Free Trade and Service Trade Industrial Park in the Xixian New Area, where they visited the comprehensive service center, bonded warehouse, and key enterprises such as Xi’an Amber Electric Co., Ltd., and Shaanxi Baota Xingkong Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd. As an open park carrying out multiple trials in free trade, service trade, and digital economy, the Free Trade and Service Trade Industrial Park has actively integrated into the development of the Belt and Road Initiative, assisting Xi’an’s economy in reaching new heights of high-quality development.

“Through this trip, we not only witnessed the achievements of cultural integration and the development practice of the Belt and Road Initiative but also had a better understanding of Xi’an and saw the city’s new development. It has made me love this beautiful city even more,” said Ma Jing, the bilingual news anchor of “Discovering Xi’an,” showing deep affection and unique insights into Xi’an.

A thousand years ago, Chang’an, as the starting point of the Silk Road, served as a vital transportation hub connecting Asia and Europe, linking the trade routes between the East and the West, and becoming a bridge for the exchange and integration of Chinese and Western civilizations. Today, under the promotion of the Belt and Road Initiative, Xi’an once again demonstrates its important position as a transportation hub, composing a new chapter in economic and cultural exchanges in the new era.

In this new stage of development, Xi’an will actively implement the outcomes of the China-Central Asia Summit, enhance regional cooperation, unleash its development potential, and continue moving forward!
