Romania, a country steeped in rich history, diverse landscapes, and cultural treasures, is experiencing a remarkable surge in tourism, building itself a reputation as a must-visit destination. The latest statistics, sourced from the renowned statistical board INS (Institutul Național de Statistică), reveal a large increase in overall tourist numbers, foreign tourist arrivals, and overnight stays, highlighting Romania’s growing popularity on the global travel stage.

Romania, often described as the hidden gem of Eastern Europe, boasts a collection of attractions that attracts scores of travelers throughout the Year. Among them is the Parliament Palace in Bucharest, the second-largest building globally, second only to the Pentagon. This architectural marvel is a testament to Romania’s glory and historical significance.

The country’s extensive 22,298km rail network, ranking 15th globally, and Bucharest’s mass transit network, the fourth largest in Europe, facilitate seamless exploration of its diverse regions.

Romania’s cultural wealth shines through the achievement of four Nobel Prize laureates: George Emil Palade (medicine), Elie Wiesel (peace), Herta Müller (literature), and Stefan Hell (chemistry). It’s noteworthy that Romania, with a population of mere 20 million people, has produced such a remarkable number of Nobel laureates.

For those seeking spiritual exploration, the tallest wooden church in the world, located in Sapanta Peri, Maramures, is a sight to behold. Further, the country’s ancient language, over 1,700 years old, adds a classical touch to traveler’s journeys, making Romania a must visit destination for linguaphiles.

Romania proudly hosts the earliest Homo sapiens fossils, dating back 37,800 to 42,000 years. Unearthed in 2002 in the Cave of Bones in southwestern Romania, the fossils contribute to our understanding of human history and evolution, making Romania a destination for those intrigued by archaeology and history.
