Chengdu,China-On July 21, the Chengdu 2026 Intern Program for Overseas Talents, jointly organized by the Chengdu Municipal Talent Affairs Office and the Communist Youth League Chengdu Municipal Committee, officially opened applications. The Program plans to recruit no fewer than 300 master’s and doctoral students from leading universities worldwide, offering opportunities through industry visits, on-the-job internships, and city immersion activities to help outstanding young talent grow alongside the city.

More Than 100 Overseas Master’s and PhD Graduates Have Chosen to Build Their Careers in Chengdu, Delivering Outstanding Results on the Front Lines of Industry

Since its launch in 2024, the Program has been successfully held for two consecutive years, attracting 406 overseas master’s and doctoral students to intern in Chengdu. It has partnered with 117 companies across 53 industry sectors, offering 547 internship positions and helping 121 participants remain in Chengdu for long-term career development. The Program has supplied internationally minded young professionals to key industrial chains such as artificial intelligence and aerospace, becoming an important bridge connecting Chengdu with global talent.

Many of these young professionals have quickly established themselves in Chengdu’s innovation ecosystem. Nie Er, who earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Australian National University, joined RiVAI Technologies (Chengdu) Co., Ltd. as an Application Software Engineer through the Program, where he is responsible for chip bring-up and debugging. After more than a year in Chengdu, he has witnessed the city’s rapidly expanding integrated circuit industry cluster and increasingly comprehensive industrial ecosystem.

“Chengdu has provided me with a broad platform to turn technology into real-world applications and pursue innovation. Equally important, its supportive talent policies and open, inclusive environment have given overseas graduates like me a genuine sense of belonging,” he said.

Participating companies have also reported strong results. According to Sichuan Langwei Optical Instrument Co., Ltd., overseas intern Cui Hongfan, who joined the company through last year’s Program, has demonstrated exceptional professionalism, strong learning ability, and seamless teamwork.

“His contribution has injected new momentum into our optical instrument R&D, significantly shortening our development cycle. The optical inspection project he is deeply involved in has successfully entered the pilot-testing stage and achieved important milestones,” the company representative said.

More Than 400 Positions Target Key Industries

This year’s Program aligns with Chengdu’s initiative to enhance industrial quality, strengthen specialized industrial parks, improve innovation capacity, and support enterprise development. Centered on the city’s “9+9+10” modern industrial system and 17 key industrial chains, the Program offers more than 400 internship opportunities across cutting-edge sectors including artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, the low-altitude economy, and biopharmaceuticals, ensuring a strong match between global talent and industrial development needs.

Internship positions are provided by Fortune Global 500 companies operating in Chengdu, centrally administered state-owned enterprises in Sichuan, municipal state-owned enterprises, STAR Market-listed companies, and leading innovation organizations. Participating employers include CNBM (Chengdu) Optoelectronic Materials Co., Ltd., Chengdu Hi-Tech Future Science City Innovation Investment Development Co., Ltd., Tianfu Jiangxi Laboratory, Tongwei Co., Ltd., Siemens Industrial Automation Products (Chengdu) Co., Ltd., and Chengdu Kanghong Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd.

All 23 districts (county-level cities and counties) across Chengdu are participating by leveraging their respective industrial strengths and development advantages. Working with local industrial parks and leading research institutes, they have established a citywide internship network covering the entire industrial value chain.

Many participating employers also offer competitive internship allowances, meal subsidies, and commuting support. Outstanding interns may receive priority consideration for full-time employment through dedicated fast-track recruitment channels.

First-Ever Virtual Information Sessions Introduced as Four Major Upgrades Strengthen the End-to-End Talent Development System

Compared with previous years, the 2026 Program introduces comprehensive upgrades in recruitment, participant services, and long-term career support, creating a full-cycle development pathway from initial engagement to internship experience and long-term employment.

For the first time, the Program will host virtual information sessions, working with the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, overseas Chinese students and scholars associations, and international youth organizations to reach students worldwide through livestreams. These sessions will feature internship opportunities, talent policy briefings, Q&A sessions with company HR representatives, and experience sharing by previous participants who have chosen to build their careers in Chengdu, allowing overseas students to explore opportunities in the city without leaving home.

During the internship period, participants will also be invited to join a series of supporting activities, including city discovery tours, industry leader roundtable discussions, and the OPC Entrepreneurship Workshop. These activities are designed to deepen participants’ understanding of Chengdu through cultural experiences, professional development, social integration, and entrepreneurship networking. Districts across the city will also organize localized programs such as innovation and entrepreneurship matchmaking events, career planning workshops, and industry-specific training tailored to regional industrial strengths.

To ensure interns enjoy a rewarding experience in Chengdu, organizers have established a comprehensive support system. According to a representative of the Communist Youth League Chengdu Municipal Committee, each internship cohort will be supported by dedicated program coordinators, class advisers, and intern representatives to provide continuous assistance throughout the Program.

Participants will also receive complimentary accommodation at youth talent hostels and welcome packages to help them settle into life in Chengdu.

In addition, the Program provides one-stop support services for interns who choose—or intend—to pursue long-term opportunities in Chengdu. Services include talent policy consultations and assistance with talent accreditation, household registration applications, rental subsidy applications, and other administrative procedures, helping young professionals build long-term careers in the city.

Looking ahead, Chengdu will continue to enhance its end-to-end talent services, comprehensive support system, and career development platform, demonstrating the city’s strong commitment to attracting global talent. Through welcoming policies, abundant opportunities, and a dynamic innovation ecosystem, Chengdu aims to attract more outstanding young people from around the world, enabling their personal growth while advancing the city’s development as a globally attractive destination for young talent.
